Accessibility
Last updated: 30 October 2026
ConnectWiz puts two things on our customers’ websites that their visitors use: the cookie consent banner (with the button that opens it again) and the chat widget. We want everyone to be able to use them, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, zoom or other assistive technology. This statement says what standard we aim for, how far we have got, how we checked, and what we know is still missing.
Standard and status
We aim for the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA, which also covers the European standard EN 301 549 referred to by the European Accessibility Act.
The cookie banner, its re-open button and the chat widget are partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 AA: we know of no failure, but they have not yet been tested with screen readers by people who use them, nor by an independent auditor.
What we do
- Every control can be reached and used with the keyboard. The chat window keeps the keyboard inside it while open, closes with Escape and returns to the button that opened it.
- Buttons, fields and dialogs carry names and roles that screen readers announce; new chat messages are announced as they arrive.
- Accept, Reject and Preferences in the cookie banner look exactly alike, so no choice is easier to see than another.
- Text and buttons keep a contrast of at least 4.5:1. Our servers refuse a banner or widget design below that, whatever colours a website chooses.
- Every control is at least 24 by 24 pixels, as WCAG 2.2 AA asks (the banner’s buttons are 44 pixels high); focus is always visible; the banner and the widget work at 320 pixels wide and when zoomed.
- Animations stop when your device asks for reduced motion.
- The banner and the widget declare their language and direction, so screen readers pronounce them correctly and right-to-left languages read correctly.
How we check
- Automated tests with axe-core (WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 A and AA rules) run on the banner, the re-open button and every chat widget screen before each release. A release with a failure does not go out.
- Before this statement we also checked the live banner and widget in a browser: axe-core including colour contrast, the keyboard, and a 320-pixel-wide screen. What we found was fixed on 30 October 2026.
Known limitations
- No test yet with screen readers such as VoiceOver, NVDA or TalkBack by the people who use them, and no independent audit.
- A website owner can add their own styling (custom CSS) to the chat widget and their own scripts to their site. We cannot vouch for the accessibility of what they add.
- This statement does not cover the ConnectWiz panel, the ConnectWiz mobile app, or our customers’ own websites.
Feedback
If something in the cookie banner or the chat widget is hard to use for you, tell us: email [email protected] with “Accessibility” in the subject, and say which website you were on and what happened. We reply within one business day. If the problem is on the website itself rather than in the banner or chat, we pass it on to the website’s owner.
